The date was easy to choose. Mildred 'Nickie' Nichols met Hank Racette while they both were serving in the Navy. Nickie, a Greenwood South Carolina native, and Hank, also from the south, (South Brooklyn) were married on 10/12/1947 and they remained so for 52 years. Hank, a Pearl Harbor survivor, passed on in 2000. His reputation as an excellent man is shared by all who remember him. Nickie 98, lives in Fallbrook CA. While she will not be able to attend the ceremony in Charleston physically, her presence will be felt in spirit.
